Resource Abstract
This progress report presents an overview of Bakken Production Optimization Program (BPOP) activities from April through June 2019. BPOP activities in support of the rich gas enhanced oil recovery pilot were largely focused on field-based activities at the Leon–Gohrick drill spacing unit in the Stomping Horse complex in Williams County, North Dakota. Large-scale injection testing was conducted in the Gohrick 4-MBH and Gohrick 6-TFH wells. Samples of oil, water, and gas were collected and analyzed as part of the second gas tracer study. Sorption isotherms for methane, ethane, propane, and a rich gas mixture were successfully measured on three shales using the high-pressure magnetic balance. The revision of the BPOP website was completed and went live May 3, 2019. Expansion of the refrac data set was completed with the addition of wells that have been refractured in the Bakken since the completion of the previous study. A statistical summary of the data set was compiled to understand the refracturing activity in the Bakken. The effort to update and expand on general well production statistics is well under way. The updated data set comprises approximately 13,000 wells. Analyses for several trends and possible correlations between well performance and engineering factors were performed. An EERC representative attended and spoke at the Flaring Issues, Solutions and Technologies Workshop in Denver, Colorado. An EERC representative attended the North Dakota Petroleum Council (NDPC) Technical Solutions Group (TSG) meeting, presented an overview of the recently completed “North Dakota Remediation Resource Manual,” and supported TSG cochairs in facilitating discussion about operational challenges and technological solutions to improve Bakken production.
