Resource Abstract

This report details the current effort to improve the quality of available data using an expanded and updated database of over 14,000 wells encompassing a broader extent of the Bakken petroleum system (BPS). The improved data set will be used in future optimization calculations on both wells and drill spacing units (DSUs). In the present work, a revised geospatial analysis was conducted to label the wells with a unique DSU identification (ID) that includes both 1280- and 2560-acre DSUs. The process required customized programming to address some of the challenges with publicly available data and to ensure that only one DSU identifier was assigned to each API (American Petroleum Institute) well number.
