Resource Abstract

This presentation focuses on the impact of well trajectory and undulations on the performance of unconventional oil wells throughout their life cycle. By analyzing field data, conducting numerical simulations, and performing experiments, the study reveals important insights. It is found that higher deviations in well trajectory result in lower cumulative oil production. Additionally, the performance difference between wells is more pronounced in the later stages of production. The decline in pressure affects flow stability, resulting in intensified flow and pressure oscillations over time. The simulations show the generation of slugs in the upward sections of the well trajectory, which then evolve along the lateral section, leading to increased length and frequency. Experimental validation confirms these trends. The implications of these findings on artificial lift techniques are discussed, highlighting the need for developing or improving current methods.
