Resource Abstract
This annotated presentation contains an overview of process modeling work conducted to assess the impact of facility operating parameters and ambient conditions on crude oil vapor pressure. Facility design and operational data were collected from member producers, and a computational model was created in VMG Sim v10. Simulations were performed using two different facility configurations common in the Bakken. Additional variables included the number of wells and tanks as well as average daily production. Measurements and readings from the field were used in conjunction with provided production data to tune and validate the model. For the conditions when vapor pressure exceeded limits, additional measures were considered. Cold weather modifications in the form of piping and tank insulation as well as additional heating units were examined and ranked by effectiveness. Further, changes in separator operation were explored. The presentation also provides lessons learned in the modeling process and general recommendations to alleviate cold weather vapor pressure issues.
