Resource Abstract

This webinar discusses the significant increase in the frequency of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) occurrence in Bakken petroleum system (BPS) wells. In the past few years, H2S production from wells has become increasingly problematic for operators and midstream service providers. The EERC research team identified at least four potential mechanisms of souring in the Bakken play that might contribute to the souring of oil production. One of these is related to the capacity of the source rock rich in sulfur to generate significant volumes of sour gas, including H2S. Various geochemical techniques were applied to test the hypothesis of H2S generation by the organic-rich intervals in the Bakken and Madison Formations, representing both sour and predominantly non-sour locations of the Williston Basin

The Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) is recognized as one of the world's leading developers of cleaner, more efficient energy to power the world and environmental technologies to protect and clean our air, water, and soil.
